If you reveal your secrets to the wind, you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees. ~Khalil Gibran
Tall pine trees stand as sentinels watching over the river flowing by. The secrets that these trees have encountered are numerous and salacious I am sure. Or maybe not. The souls that have lingered here for a short time may have been virtuous and unassuming. The leaves and the water tell no tales as they are rooted to the earth and silent indeed.
A tree is a silent reminder that all who live have roots. Deep and hidden and yet essential to life. We do not survive without our roots and they do not survive without us. The leaves that are sprouted from our very core are an outward example that we flourish. Without these reminders it is easy to forget that we are not alone.
What are your roots, what keeps you grounded and nourishes you. Where is it that you came from that guides you to this day. Is it the past or is it the present or the future. The guiding force that gets you up in the morning and moving all day long. For each of us we can answer this question differently as we all have a unique answer.
As in a tree, our roots change with time. The elongate and search for life giving water. Water for our bodies and our souls. The liquid hope that courses through our veins. My roots have grown to encompass all that I have absorbed over my years. Heartache and love not to mention all that comes in between. This nourishes me and gives me hope to continue. Nothing stays the same and the best I hope to do is embrace that change that strengthens me and accept that which hurts. Change it if you can but know that all is well in the end.
Camping with my family reminded me of just how special it is to enjoy quiet moments with our loved ones. It also reminded me of how grateful I am to have a nice warm home to return to at the end of a long weekend. What fun to share the outdoors with the small children and the larger ones and how special to take these memories home and cherish them for many hours to come.
